When DC Comics laid out a lot of its staff last year, one name amongst those let go that came as a shock to everyone was Mark Doyle. In his almost 15 years at DC Comics, Doyle has work his way from assistant editor to group editor for the Batman books in the New 52. Before being let go by DC, Doyle was over editorial on DC’s Black Label line of Books. In a statement released on Tuesday announcing the hire of two others under the IDW Media Holdings umbrella, IDW Publishing’s arm announced Doyle joining the company as Editorial Director of Originals, responsible for developing new, original comics and graphic novels.

“I’ve been making comics for more than 14 years and have always been an avid IDW fan,” said Doyle in IDW’s statement. “My passion has always been working with talent and telling original stories, so I’m excited to be a part of this growing team. I know we’re going to make great things together.”

In the statement, Jonny Gutman, IDW’s new VP of Series, expressed his eagerness in working with the veteran editor beyond the pages of comics.

I’m looking forward to partnering with Mark to continue to break new ground for IDW, and to bring these wonderful story-worlds to life on screen.
